Alan Gilbert Cancels His Conducting of Concert with Berliner Philharmoniker Due to Illness
Alan Gilbert, American conductor and violinist

Alan Gilbert, American conductor and violinist, cancels his conducting of the concert with the Berliner Philharmoniker slated for June 5, 2021 due to illness. In his place, Sakari Oramo, Finnish conductor, conducts the live concert in the Digital Concert Hall, Berliner Philharmoniker announced recently in its news release.

Alan Gilbert continues to recover well from his illness with Covid-19 but is unfortunately forced to cancel his participation in the livestream concert with the Berliner Philharmoniker on June 5, 2021.

The Berliner Philharmoniker are very grateful to Sakari Oramo for being able to step in. Since his debut in May 2001, the Finnish principal conductor of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and the BBC Symphony Orchestra has presented six different programmes with the Berliner Philharmoniker.

The programme of the concert has been partially changed. Unsuk Chin’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra with pianist Sunwook Kim as the soloist remains. The originally planned Piano Quartet No. 1 by Johannes Brahms (in the orchestration by Arnold Schoenberg) is replaced by Jean Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2.
