The Philharmonie Berlin Will Remain Closed to the Public in December
Weekly Live Streams in Digital Concert Hall Continue
The Philharmonie Berlin will remain closed to the public in December. Weekly live streams in the Digital Concert Hall will continue to take place. Cellist Nicolas Altstaedt makes his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker in a live broadcast in the Digital Concert Hall on Dec. 5, 2020 at 19:00 under the direction of Alain Altinoglu.

In line with the decisions taken by the German Federal Government and the Länder on Nov. 25, 2020, both the main auditorium of the Philharmonie and the Chamber Music Hall will remain closed in December.

In addition to the events of the Berliner Philharmoniker Foundation, all other guest events are also affected. The daily guided tours of the Philharmonie and the free lunch concerts will also not take place during this time.

As in November, the Berliner Philharmoniker will present their concerts as weekly live streams in the Digital Concert Hall. The New Year’s Eve concert will also be broadcast on arte and on Rundfunk Berlin Brandenburg.

Tickets that have already been purchased will be refunded; information on this can be found on our webpage.

Cellist Nicolas Altstaedt makes his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker in the live broadcast in the Digital Concert Hall on Dec. 5, 2020 at 19:00. He will play the Cello concerto No. 1 in A minor op. 33 by Camille Saint-Saëns under the direction of Alain Altinoglu, who has thankfully stepped in at short notice for the unfortunately indisposed Tugan Sokhiev. The programme, which remains unchanged, also includes Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite and Bizet’s Symphony No. 1. On Sunday, Dec. 6, there will be a replay of the live stream at 12:00.

In association with the Deutsche Bank, the PalaisPopulaire website will host a live stream of a concert in its new series Workshop.Dialog.Music on Dec. 3 at 19.00 on the PalaisPopulaire website.

The two Philharmoniker cellists Knut Weber and Nikolaus Römisch will present four 20th century composers whose lives and works were closely linked with the history of the Berliner Philharmoniker.

The Philharmonic Discourse with Juli Zeh and Ijoma Mangold in conversation with Christian Rabhansl, scheduled for Dec. 2, as well as the organ concert with Olivier Latry and the Brass Ensemble of the Berliner Philharmoniker planned for Dec. 6, will be postponed to the 2021/22 season. The exact dates will be announced at a later date.

A popular pre-Christmas tradition will be continued this year: if you buy a 12-month ticket for the Digital Concert Hall for €149 before Dec. 25, you will receive an exclusive limited DVD Blu-ray edition as an additional gift — the Berliner Philharmoniker with chief conductor Kirill Petrenko present the 2020 European Concert plus works by Mozart, Debussy and Schönberg.
