S. Korea's Top Lawyer, Dr. Oh Byoung-Joo, Runs for National Assembly Election
He Authors New Book "Secret Key to Hopeful Future"

S. Korean lawyer Dr. Oh Byoung-Joo introduces his new book "Secret Key to Hopeful Future" in Seoul on Jan. 14, 2020 while ex-S. Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-Soo, ex-Rep. Kim Chang-Joon of US House of the Representatives, and ex-Construction Minister Oh Jang-Sub of S. Korea attend Dr. Oh's book signing ceremony.

Dr. Oh Byoung-Joo, arguably South Korea's most famous lawyer, starts out to run for National Assembly election slated for April 15, 2020.

In a recent interview with The Seoul Times he had in his office in Seocho-dong in southern part of Seoul, the seasoned lawyer announced his plan to run for parliamentary election.

For this, Dr. Oh held the book signing ceremony of his new book near his office at the dawn of this year.

Dr. Oh celebrated his new book titled “"Secret Key to Hopeful Future," in a special ceremony held at Sahyang Gymnasium of Seoul National University of Education in Seocho-dong, the southern part of Seoul on Jan. 14, 2020.

The 63-year-old invited hundreds of high-profile guests from nearly all walks of life to his book signing event held at 4 p.m. on the day.

Among the prominent participants were scores of lawyers and prosecutors of Dr. Oh's friends or former colleagues. Dr. Oh served as a prosecutor himself for many years in the past.

Top dignitaries included former South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-Soo, former Rep. Kim Chang-Joon of US House of the Representatives, and former Construction Minister Oh Jang-Sub of South Korea. They all made a congratulatory speech one by one.

“"Secret Key to Hopeful Future," an autobiography deals with a series of his own personal experiences and episodes. He also explores human existence and mysteries of universe and the nature.

Dr. Oh's book is divided into eight sections which include themes like national securities and diplomacy, culture, law and people.

Who Is Dr. Oh Byoung-Joo?

A graduate of the elite Seoul National University's Law School, Dr. Oh also studied at UC Berkeley's Law School. He earned his PhD in law from Hanyang University in Seoul.

He passed successfully through South Korean bar examination to become a prosecutor and lawyer. He also passed through the government's exam for high-level public officer qualification.

Following years of his service as a public prosecutor, he also built his career as a government administrator.

He served as a vice mayor of Gongju, South Chungcheong Province. He also served as vice minister of Prime Minister's Office.

Dr. Oh ran unsuccessfully for the general election in 2016 to become a National Assemblyman.

Undaunted, Dr. Oh runs again for National Assembly election, slated for April 15, 2020.

He will represent Seocho-eul district of Seoul this times. He will run on the ticket of the conservative Korea Liberty Party, the largest opposition party.

"The current government of President Moon Jae-In should stop its pro-North Korean policy," Dr. Oh said in the interview."He is ruining the Korea-US alliance"

Dr. Oh said that he will save his own turf "Seocho-gu, the most affluent city of Metropolitan Seoul.

Seocho-gu or Seocho District is where Dr. Oh has been practicing law for a number of years.

It is also called nation's "law district" where Supreme Prosecutors' Office, Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, Supreme Court, and many other law-related institutions situated.

Located at the gate of Supreme Prosecutors' Office is Dr. Oh's law office "OK Law Office," which is open to any ordinary people who need his help.

Park Soung-Jin serves as a staff reporter & editor of The Seoul Times. Park studied Chinese language at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. He was a graduate of 43rd class ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps). He finished his military service as the 1st lieutenant in the ROK Army.
