“Stop Killing Our Children”: Palestinian Envoy
Ambassador Waleed A. Siam Urges for Immediate Cease-Fire in Exclusive Interview with The Seoul

“We call for immediate ceasefire,” said Palestinian envoy visiting Seoul from its Tokyo Representative Office. “Hundreds of innocent Palestinians were killed and thousands were injured by the Israeli attack”

In the exclusive interview with The Seoul Times held at Lotte Hotel in Seoul on July 21, 2014 Palestinian Ambassador Waleed A. Siam explained the brutality and tragedy Palestinians suffer from the recent attacks by Israeli forces in Gaza Stripe.

The Palestinian envoy based in its Tokyo office flew to Seoul July 20, 2014 to appeal to South Korean media about the brutality of Israeli forces on Palestinians and to ask South Korean government for help in its call for the ceasefire.

The envoy is in charge of both Japan and South Korea.

As of July 21, 2014 some 2,500 innocent Palestinians including many children were wounded and 467 were killed. Over a thousand houses were destroyed by the Israeli bombings, according to the envoy.

“Our message is very clear,” the envoy argued. “Stop killing our children”

“Open your eyes and see the truth,” he added. “Netanyahu is massacring our children in the name of self-defense”

He said that he would meet with the officials of South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Ministry and Trade (MOFAT) in the afternoon of July 21, 2014 just before he would go back to his Tokyo office.

He revealed that he would discuss South Korean government’s stance on the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Palestinians.

He said that he would urge South Korean government to issue an official announcement for the cease-fire on the current conflicts in Palestinian territories.

“We are demanding an immediate cease-fire and we are also urging the world community for humanitarian assistance and medical supplies in particular,” he added.

The envoy also argued that there is a common thing between the US and Israel.

“Just the way the early American settlers annihilated American Indians,” he argued. “The Israeli settlers have been massacring native Palestinians in the same fashion”

The envoy would also discuss with South Korean officials the economic development projects the Korean government started in 1997 for the Palestinians.

“Building schools, and providing medical equipment and facilities are parts of the projects,” the envoy said.

Ambassador Siam, the former Palestinian war correspondent, was appointed its ambassador to Tokyo in 1999. Prior to his appointment he was serving as its foreign ministry’s director general in charge of Asia.

The envoy said that his journalistic experience of 11 years included working for Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) and his stint at Gulf Agency.

Siam graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas in the US. He spent close to 20 years in America, studying and working.

He is married and has five children with his wife. Most of his children is studying in the US or Canada.

The Ambassador Siam can be reached at his Email waleedsiam@palst-jp.com or his office phone 03-5215-8700 at Permanent General Mission of the State of Palestine in Tokyo.
