Dr.Tony Michell of KABC Gathers Its Members at British Embassy in Seoul

Managing Director Tony Michell of the Korea Associates Business Consultancy (KABC) convened a business dinner gathering for his business members and his associates at the residence of British Ambassador to Seoul Scott Wightman on April 30, 2014.

The friendly business event attracted scores of members of his KBF (Korea Business Forum) for exchanging business information as well as greetings.

The evening was hosted by British Ambassador Scott Wightman of British Embassy in Seoul;

Led by British Ambassador Wightman, the group first paused to pay respects to the victims and bereaved family members of the Sewol ferry disaster.

Welcoming the attendees, Ambassador Wightman expressed his pleasure in having so many businesspeople in his residence.

The British envoy repeated his embassy's pledge to support in particular the small- and medium-sized enterprises (SME).

He also praised the work of Dr. Michell's company in helping foreign companies keep abreast of developments in South Korea.

As they did at theBritish envoy’s residence gathering, Dr. Michell and his members get together to discuss such issues as business, society and life in Korea in regular monthly fora.

The most recent one was a breakfast forum on “Multi-cultural Korea: reality and potential” held at the Namsan Room I of Grand Hyatt Seoul on April 17 (Thursday), 2014.

KABC is a consulting firm formed and headed by foreigners in 1989. Since then it has been specializing in the problems faced by foreigners conducting business in South Korea and in Northeast Asia. Presently Dr. Michell serves as its managing director.

Dr. Tony Michell

Dr. Tony Michell, born on Dec. 3, 1947, is a British businessman, entrepreneur, and pioneer for the Korean development, operating in Korea and other Asian countries. He has worked with the Korea Development Institute to create policies for the government since 1978.

Dr. Michell heads Euro-Asia Business Consultancy (EABC) set up by him in 1989. He has branches in Beijing, Hong Kong, Seoul, and Pyongyang.

The Korea Associates Business Forum, a forum of both foreign and local businessmen in Korea, was also founded and headed by him.

Dr. Tony Michell is widely viewed by local Koreans and other international media as a prime reference point on issues about North Koreans. He appeared countless times on such media as BBC, CNN, ABC, CNBC, KBS, and Arirang TV.

Dr. Michell is favored by world media for his objective view of North Korea. As the vice chairman of Northern Development Consortium Dr. Michell played a pivotal role in the first wave of foreign investment in North Korea in the 1990s.

Dr. Michell was awarded the Order of Friendship by the DPRK government for his role in humanitarian assistance to the Communist country.

He first entered Corpus Christi, Cambridge University with a scholarship in 1966. He received B.A. in history in 1969, and M.A. in 1972. He earned his PhD in Economic History in 1978.
