King's Day of Belgium Celebrated in Seoul

Belgian Ambassador to South Korea Adrien Theatre and his spouse Mrs. Djie Genevieve Theatre hosted a reception at Millennium Seoul Hilton in Seoul on Nov. 15, 2017 on the occasion of King's Day of Belgium.

King's Day of Belgium or the King's Feast falls on Nov. 15 every year. The day has been celebrated since 1866 as a special day for the Belgian Royal family.

The dinner reception was held at Atrium on the thrid floor of the hotel from 6:30 p.m. till 8:30 p.m. on the day.

A number of both local Korean and other international guests from all walks of life were invited to the reception. Among the high-profile guests were politicians, business leaders, local journalists as well as foreign diplomats.

The bilateral ties between the Kingdom of Belgium and South Korea goes all the way back to 1901 when then Hermit King of Korea formed bilateral trade agreement with the European kingdom.

Belgian Ambassador to South Korea Adrien Theatre is one of the foreign ambassadors in Seoul's diplomatic circle who are very active with duties and other related responsibilities.

The Belgian envoy has been promoting active bilateral exchanges and mutual cooperations between South Korea and the Kingdom of Belgium since his arrival in Seoul as its ambassador in August 2016.

As part of his efforts for boosting mutual ties Ambassador Theatre is invited quite often to the local universities and to other schools for a special lecture.

Particularly the Belgian envoy is the frequent visitor to the Ghent University global campus in Songdo, Incheon west of Seoul, Korea.

Recently on its campus he delivered a special lecture on "The Society and Culture of Belgium," drawing a big applause from the local students.

The Belgian envoy became a recipient of the highest decoration for individuals from the US Army stationed in South Korea.

He was presented with "the Ancient Order of Saint Barbara" from the the Eighth Army commanding general, Lt. Gen. Thomas Vandal for his contrubutions to the related field.

Who Is Belgian Ambassador Adrien Theatre?

Belgian Ambassador to South Korea Adrien Theatre has been serving at the Embassy of Belgium in Seoul since August in 2016.

He worked as the director of the Latin America & the Caribbean bureau of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a little over two years between June, 2014 and July 2016.

At the ministry he also served as a desk officer in charge of Mercosur countries and FPS coordinator of FIFA World Cup 2014 and the 2016 Olympic Games.

Prior to that, he served as the Belgian ambassador to Burkina Faso in West Africa between 2009 and 2013.

Ambassador Theatre first joined the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs" in 1992 as an official diplomat.

Earlier in his diplomatic career he had served in such places as in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Berlin in Germany, and the Hague in the Netherlands in positions like first secretary and political counsellor.

He graduated from the Royal Military Academy of Belgium before he entered the Belgian foreign ministry.
