Junior Football Leagues Show Record Growth in China
Shenzhen, China, June 12, 2017 — More than 1,000 children have competed in the first ever Mission Hills Junior Football League in Shenzhen this year, which reached its climax in the season-ending play offs at the Mission Hills Resort in southern China today.

A record 446 matches have taken place in the Shenzhen league this season – more than any other junior league in the region. A total of 38 teams featured in the seasonal, home-and-away style format, with age groups ranging from Under 8 to Under 14.

Organised by Pro Evolution Athletes, the new season will kick off in September with another six cities across China already signed up to join the leagues, a number which is expected to rise to 14 cities in the coming weeks. Plans are also in place for a global junior team championship at the Mission Hills Haikou Resort on Hainan Island next February, which will welcome more than 8,000 players from 500 Chinese and international teams.

Tenniel Chu, Vice-Chairman of Mission Hills Group said: “Following our recent ground-breaking partnership with FC Barcelona to make Hainan province a hub of football for China and the wider region, we have further extended our commitment to the beautiful game through the Mission Hills Junior Football Leagues across China.”

“We are delighted that the football leagues are proving so popular at the grass-roots level, meaning tens of thousands of young children across the country will have the opportunity to play the beautiful game,” continued Chu, who serves as President of the Mission Hills Junior Football Leagues. “This is part of our grand vision to create a legacy for football in our country and provide a platform for a future generation of footballers in China.”
