Marking 50th Year of Ties
Bolivia Envoy Devoted to Boosting Mutual Ties
Amb. Guadalupe Palomeque De Taboada Busy in Promoting Bolivia Among Local S. Korean People
Bolivian Ambassador to Seoul Guadalupe Palomeque De Taboada (center) poses with Vice President Wofgang Slawinski of Austrian Korean Society at Bolivian Embassy in Seoul on April 10, 2015. At left is Director Kim Yun-Ja of The Seoul Times.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between Bolivia and South Korea Bolivian Ambassador to Seoul Guadalupe Palomeque De Taboada has initiated a special program of commemorative activities in the civilian sector with South Korean partners to boost economic cooperation with Seoul.

To kick off the program the Bolivian envoy invited a group of local business leaders and others to the opening ceremony held at its embassy in Seoul on April 10, 2015.

Among the guests was Mrs. Shin Tae-Yi of G Ocean Group of Companies. Shin and her company will undertake various business and cultural activities in both countries.

As part of the activities marking the 50th anniversary of mutual ties the Embassy of Bolivia in Seoul helped make the local Hanyang University exchange groups of performing arts with Catholic University of Bolivia.

The following is the full text of the opening speech the Bolivian envoy made at the opening ceremony held at her embassy in Seoul on April 10, 2015.

Opening Remarks
Amb. Guadalupe Palomeque de Taboada
Seoul, April 10, 2015

In a few more days, on April 25, 2015, it will be 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Plurinational State of Bolivia and the Republic of Korea.

In January, starting this so significant year we have received the Official Visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. David Choquehuanca, who with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Korea, Mr Yun Byung se, by reviewing the bilateral agenda, enhanced the high level of the relations between both countries.

In that opportunity, the Bolivian Chancellor, besides the official meetings, shared with the academical sector, the new scope of development carried out in Bolivia. I am referring to the policy of “Living Well”, which is very similar to “Saemaul Undong” in Korea.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bolivia, in an encounter with the Bolivian Community, made known the advancements reached by the President Evo Morales since he assumed power in 2006.

A few days ago, in occasion of the IBD Annual meeting in the city of Busan, we also received the visit of the Minister of Development Planning of Bolivia, Mr. René Orellana, who besides subscribing an external financing agreement with EXHIMBANK from Korea, for 250 million US dollars, had the opportunity to share with the Korean press, the achievements of the Bolivian economy during the last 13 years, besides attending meetings with various international financement sources, since Bolivia, in the last years has prioritized the public investments in infrastructure and productive development, areas in which it counts on partners from different countries and of course, Korea.

Today, is a very special day, since we will know the program of the activities which for more than three months, have been coordinated with the Organizer Committee Secretariat of G-OCEAN Group of Companies, as a parallel and complementative work to the celebration of the 50 years of the brotherhood between Bolivia and Korea.

This kind of initiatives are very welcome, and I would like to emphasize that in 2006, the Bolivian Foreign Policy is based on the “Diplomacy of the Peoples”, which in other words means that the relationship of our country at an international level are not carried out only by the government authorities, but also each one of the citizens and all the sectors of society.

For all of these reasons, from the Embassy of Bolivia, we will put all our effort to achieve the success of each one of the projects. It will be the success of both countries.

Thank you very much.
