Jay Chou in Harmony with Mission Hills, Hard Rock International
Superstar singer Jay Chou is teaming up with Mission Hills Group and Hard Rock International in a historic agreement that brings together the glamorous worlds of sport, entertainment and hospitality. Chou has been named Rock Star Ambassador for the new Mission Hills Haikou Hard Rock Hotel being built at Mission Hills Haikou, the fully integrated leisure resort on the tropical island of Hainan, China. In addition, he will be an Official Ambassador for the star-studded Mission Hills World Celebrity Pro-Am golf spectacular,which will be held at the resort from 24-26 October, and will sing at the Opening Ceremony. Chou appeared at a press conference in Shanghai today (Sunday) to announce his new roles with Mission Hills, China’s premier leisure and lifestyle brand, and Hard Rock, the global music and hospitality giant. He was joined at the press conference by Dr. Ken Chu, Chairman and CEO of Mission Hills Group; Mr. Tenniel Chu, Vice Chairman of Mission Hills Group; and Mr. Hamish Dodds, President and CEO of Hard Rock International. Multi-talented Chou – singer-songwriter, musician, actor and director – will help design the Haikou hotel’s signature Rock Star Suites. In addition, the hotel will feature posters, CDs, instruments, costumes and other memorabilia to showcase his contribution to music. “I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to co-operate with Mission Hills and Hard Rock International,” said Chou. “My first press conference was held in the Hard Rock Taipei, so today's event is of great significance to me. How time flies! “Fourteen years have passed since my debut and I've dreamed that I can design my own music-themed hotel room, incorporating some Chinese-style elements. “One day, my fans from home and abroad will come to Mission Hills Haikou Hard Rock Hotel and they will not only listen to my music in the hotel, but also see my costumes and other items in the rooms. “I hope the design of the rooms will have diversity since my music is hard to categorise, as it mixes rock and roll, hip-hop and classical forms. I will work together with Mission Hills and Hard Rock in the design process to create a signature hotel room.” The Hard Rock Hotels being built at Mission Hills Haikou and Mission Hills Shenzhen-Dongguan on the mainland are the first two such in China. Taiwanese-born Chou is massively popular in China and across Asia, resulting in an estimated 30 million albums sold since his debut in 2000. In honour of Chou’s hit single Nunchaku – named after his signature martial arts chain-sticks – Dr. Chu presented the singer with a “nunchaku” styled golf club. “Just as Mission Hills has used golf to communicate between China and the world, so has Jay Chou though his music,” commented Dr. Chu. “By fusing Eastern and Western elements in his works, Jay has created a new era of Chinese music and brought it to a whole new audience. “Therefore, he is the perfect Rock Star Ambassador for the Mission Hills Haikou Hard Rock Hotel. We are creating not just a hotel, but a unique Chinese cultural experience for our guests from all over the world.” Chou will also play an active role at the Mission Hills World Celebrity Pro-Am, which will see 24 professional golfers and 24 stars from show business and sport come together for a long weekend of golf, glamour and gala events. Oscar winners Morgan Freeman and Nicole Kidman are lined up to appear, together with Hollywood heartthrob Chris Evans. Dazzling actress Jessica Alba is confirmed to take part, as is music maestro Kenny G. Sporting icons heading to the World Celebrity Pro-Am include two Olympic legends, Russian ice skater Evgeni Plushenko and Chinese gymnast Li Ning, and Portuguese former international footballer Luís Figo. China’s basketball legend and former NBA star Yao Ming will also take part in the tournament for the second time. The retired athlete remains one of the most influential sporting figures in China and his revisit to Mission Hills will further popularize the game of golf in the nation. Top golfers confirmed for the tournament include 2013 US Open champion Justin Rose, the flamboyant Ian Poulter, multiple Major winners Gary Player and Greg Norman, former Open Championship winner Darren Clarke and Europe’s 2014 Ryder Cup captain, Paul McGinley. In total, participants in this year’s star-spangled event have collected more than 160 acting awards, over 100 music awards, 35 Olympic and World Championship medals and a staggering 335 professional golf victories, including 15 Majors. Chou revealed he was excited about being Official Ambassador for the tournament but also a little worried, given the state of his golf game. “Maybe you will not see me play on the course, but I will certainly be singing there,” he confirmed. “Golf is a sport for gentlemen where the key point is not your skill level but your love for the game. “Hopefully we can pass this feeling of love to people around the world by holding the World Celebrity Pro-Am. I’m looking forward to this spectacular event at Mission Hills and I’ll see you all in Haikou.” The Hard Rock Hotel at Haikou is part of a major new development, Mission Hills Centreville Haikou, that includes an entertainment district being built in conjunction with Hong Kong’s Lan Kwai Fong Group, shopping malls, leisure facilities, residential blocks and two more hotels – a Ritz-Carlton and Renaissance. The resort recently opened a giant new tourist attraction, Mission Hills Haikou • H. Brothers • Feng Xiaogang Movie Town, spanning almost a square kilometre and involving total investment of US$300 million. Movie Town includes vintage street settings from film director Feng’s most famous movies, state-of-the-art film studios, an array of shopping and dining options and countless other entertainment and leisure features. Mission Hills Haikou already features a 539-room hotel, 10 world-class golf courses and “The World’s Largest Spa Resort” as officially recognized by Guinness World Records. Meanwhile, Mission Hills Shenzhen-Dongguan is officially “The World’s Largest Golf Club” with 12 courses. The Hard Rock Hotel there is part of another major shopping, leisure, business and residential hub, Mission Hills Centreville Shenzhen, which is currently under construction. Apart from legendary film director Feng, China’s entertainment industry will be well represented by acclaimed actors Chen Daoming and Wang Zhiwen and singer Sun Nan. Hong Kong celebrities taking part include film director Sammo Hung, actors Donnie Yen, Simon Yam, Eric Tsang, Natalis Chan, Michael Wong and Ruco Chan, and actress Miriam Yeung. Three of Korea’s biggest entertainment stars, hugely popular actress Gianna Jun and singers Rain and Lyn, are also confirmed to appear. Other professional golfers confirmed to join the Mission Hills World Celebrity Pro-Am are Major winners Ian Woosnam and Rich Beem and top female players Danielle Montgomery, Carly Booth, Joanna Klatten, Linda Wessberg, Caroline Martens, Sharmila Nicollet, Maria Balikoeva and Diana Luna, who all feature on the Ladies European Tour.
